At the beginning of the year we attended the National Qualifiers. Gymnasts from Spelthorne and the South East region battling to become Regional Champion and to earn a spot at National Finals. Since the success of that competition our gymnasts have been working extremely hard to prepare for finals. A much tougher competition than first time around, competing against the rest of the country to become the overall National Champion. The gymnasts competing were very talented and prepared gymnasts so it wasn’t going to be easy, but all we could do was our best, and that we did.
The 24 selected gymnasts travelled with their coaches and supporters to start a weekend of competition. Once again the gymnasts throughout the NDP levels took to the floor in their individual categories. Having only one chance to earn the title, routines had to be artistically pleasing, technically correct and full of character. Our gymnasts are used to competing under pressure, but with each new competition and a new title to be gained it must still rattle the nerves. For these young gymnasts gaining the title of National Champion is a step in the right direction for progressing and continuing to succeed.
All of our gymnasts performed well, with a packed audience cheering them on and providing encouragement, they reacted to the crowds and gave performances to be proud of.
The competition started off with our Grade 1 and Grade 3 categories. Firstly, Eddie and Maddie performing a “strictly” dazzling routine to earn a silver medal in the Grade 1 Mixed Pair category. Next our Grade 3 categories. A Women’s Group, and Women’s Pair. Both partnerships did exceptionally well in their categories, clean and tidy routines and growing in confidence to keep them both in the top 10! Lauryn, Zara and Ava finishing in 8th and Hannah and Jessie finishing in 5th! Well both to all of you. Finally in our Grade 3 category, our Men’s Group. Four young boys who danced a cheeky routine to win over the judges, finishing them in third place and with a bronze medal!
Next up our Grade 5 competitors and more success. Both partnerships our Women’s Pair and Women’s Group taking to the floor with two routines, both their balance and tempo routines. If competing one routine was nerve wracking enough, these gymnasts had to hold their nerve through two routines to try and maintain the standard across two very varied routines. Our Women’s Group; Rosie, Lauren and Amy-Jules held their ground through the both performances and finished with an overall bronze medal. Next up our Women’s Pair, an experience duo who also in a very tough category managed to hold their ground, and go one better, to outshine the competition and take home the GOLD! Ruby and Amy now Grade 5 National Champions 2019!
2019 Grade 5 Women’s Pair National Champions- Ruby Bray and Amy Exon
Finishing the weekend we had our Grade 2 and Grade 4 competitors. Three more partnerships to make Spelthorne proud and round off the competition. One short routine each, but a feeling of the longest few minutes EVER for them, when on the floor. Tough categories with gymnasts from across the UK but Spelthorne managing to perform well under the pressure. Doing their very best and making us proud, and of course gaining very valuable competition experience.
Gemma Lexie and Emma our Grade 2 women’s Group finishing in 4th. Emma and Maisie our Grade 2 Women’s Pair finishing in 5th place and finally Gracie, Olivia and Poppy our Grade 4 Women’s Group finishing in 8th.
Congratulations to all of our gymnasts and coaches for the continued success and progression.
xoxo
